Could the concepts of Ayurveda inspire transformation in your life?

Ayurveda, the “science of life,” is a traditional healing system based in the power and rhythms of nature. It is said to be a world medicine, the most holistic system available. Ayurveda offers a body of wisdom developed to teach simple diet and lifestyle habits to support health, longevity and the prevention of illness. Ayurveda provides individualized guidelines for daily and seasonal routines, diet, behavior and the proper use of our senses. The science of Ayurveda is based on the 5 elements of Ether, Air, Fire, Water & Earth. This understanding is used to restore balance in our physical body and mind.

The goal of Ayurveda is to educate and empower people to take control of their own health, a key factor in the healing process.

According to the philosophy of Ayurveda, our life force manifests as three different bio-energies, or doshas. These are known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Ayurveda’s strength is in its ability to understand the energy present in a system and the way in which that energy affects the organism as a whole. Each dosha is a combination of two elements and the foundation for a person’s constitutional nature (prakriti).

  • Vata – Ether & Air

  • Pitta – Fire & Water

  • Kapha – Water & Earth

Ayurveda uses a combination of the elements as a framework for understanding the body and its relationship with the universe.

As a system of health, Ayurveda balances and rejuvenates life by empowering immunity to prevent disease in the body and mind. An Ayurvedic consultation focuses on optimizing vitality through suggestions tailored to each individual’s unique constitution and current situation.

I will ask detailed questions about your daily routines, diet, digestion, exercise, stress patterns, sleep, work life, and relationships. I may also use eye, face, pulse, fingernail and tongue assessment to get a fuller picture of your prakriti (your inborn mind-body constitution, defined by your primary dosha/s) and your vikriti (your current imbalanced state, defined by which dosha(s) are elevated).

Historically, Ayurveda has been helpful in resolving many difficulties including the following:

  • Stress-related problems (insomnia, headaches, irritability, anxiety, depression)
  • Digestive issues (chronic indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, hyperacidity)
  • Menstrual difficulties (heavy flow, pain, irregularity, scanty flow, PMS, infertility)
  • Joint pain or discomfort, low back pain, fibromyalgia
  • Obesity, excess weight, edema, water retention
  • Eczema, psoriasis and other skin disorders
  • Hot flashes, dryness and other discomfort from menopause

Ayurveda supports a culture dedicated to health & happiness. It is the foundation for leading an enjoyable life and living in balance with our environment.
